Southern Ocean Lodge, Kangaroo Island – Luxury Lodges Of Australia

Southern Ocean Lodge

Southern Ocean Lodge At Kangaroo Island

Southern Ocean Lodge – At a Glance
Southern Ocean Lodge, Baillie Lodges’ flagship property on Kangaroo Island reopened in December 2023 following a complete rebuild, nearly four years after the luxury lodge was razed by bushfires. Created by the lodge’s original architect, South Australia-based Max Pritchard, the new property bears almost the same footprint as the original, with 25 luxurious guest suites easing along the coastline, newly reoriented to take in more of the ocean and coastal wilderness views.

Included is the new ultra-premium Ocean Pavilion which follows the ‘owner’s residence’ style private pavilions across the portfolio, and features a wet-edge pool, terrace and four bedrooms and bathrooms. A new location for the Southern Spa allows space for three treatment rooms, a gymnasium, sauna and hot and cold plunge pools.

Commanding mesmerising views of the Southern Ocean, twenty-five luxurious suites ease along the coast, while the ultra-premium Baillie Pavilion reigns from its crowning position atop the limestone cliffs, each offering guests an easy encounter with the lodge’s breathtaking wilderness setting.

Kangaroo Island

Kangaroo Island wildlife
More than one third of the island is covered by national and conservation parks. Kangaroo Island is a haven for kangaroos, wallabies, possums, frogs, bandicoots, koalas, platypus, sea-lions and fur-seals … the list goes on.

This is from an adventure tour operator, but it will give you a VERY good idea of what Kangaroo Island is all about:

We are auctioning a 3-night stay at Southern Ocean Lodge to help our friends at the Kangaroo Island Country Education Fund. The Baillie Lodges Spirit of Mateship program is a new, ongoing initiative for the collection of luxury lodges to raise funds for nominated community, health, education and conservation organisations in each of the lodge’s locations. Your bid for this stay at the newly reopened Southern Ocean Lodge will contribute towards the life-changing work done for the Kangaroo Island youth community by The Kangaroo Island Country Education Fund. The KICEF mission is to foster the further education, career and personal development opportunities of rural youth via community encouragement and financial assistance.
