Brisbane To The Whitsundays Tour – 5 Days

Brisbane To The Whitsundays Tour

Hopping from the city to the tropics

Queensland is a vast and beautiful state, but thanks to its extensive intrastate flight network, your clients can be exploring its capital city in the morning and sitting on a tropical island watching the sunset in the afternoon.

This is the itinerary for the client that wants the best of both worlds.

________________

Day 1 – Explore Queensland’s capital

Arrive in Brisbane and explore the sights. Hop on and off the CityCat ferry cruise around the Brisbane River for a different city experience.

For this itinerary, you might like to travel at a slightly slower pace. With that in mind, two nights at a luxury hotel like The Calile, W Hotel or Emporium South Bank might be exactly what you need to start this trip.

Day 2 – AM in the city, PM in the tropics

Start today like the locals and enjoy breakfast at one of the cities many cafes. Industry Beans in Newstead, Paw Paw Cafe in Wooloongabba and Morning After in West End are great places to start.

Once you have ticked off everything in Brisbane it’s time to head to the airport for a 90-minute flight to The Whitsundays. Here you have two options, either fly direct to Hamilton Island, or fly to Whitsundays Coast Airport in Proserpine and spend your first night at Airlie Beach on the mainland.

Regardless of which airport you chose, the rite of passage is to toast the first sunset with a drink overlooking the coral sea.

Day 3, 4 and 5 – Explore the wonders of the Whitsundays

Here’s a quick guide for picking the best accommodation option:

Airlie Beach – for access to all the tours and the bustling seaside town
Hamilton Island – the island with everything. Accommodation caters to all travellers
Hayman Island Resort – a luxury resort with all the fine trimmings
Daydream Island Resort – perfect for families
Elysian Resort and Palm Bay Resort – secluded, barefoot luxury

Once the accommodation is sorted, the next three days are about exploring the wonders of the Whitsundays – Whitehaven Beach (and Hill Inlet), the islands and the Outer Great Barrier Reef.

There are a range of tour options to suit all travellers and budgets. We recommend heading to the outer reef to truly experience the size and diversity of the reef.

For something different, you might like to soar above the Reef and Whitehaven Beach on a helicopter flight, see the islands through the eyes of the regions First Nations People on the Ngaro Indigenous Cultural Tour, or head to Bowen (on the mainland) for fresh seafood and a swim in one of the towns amazing bays.

The trick to a Whitsunday holiday is to not rush, make sure there is plenty of down time to simply enjoy the beauty of the region.

If you are looking for an extension, Mackay is an hour south of Airlie Beach. At nearby Cape Hillsborough you can join the local wallabies and kangaroos that return to the beach every morning at sunrise, it’s a truly special Queensland experience.
