New Resorts In Cuba

Cuba has it all — natural marvels, gorgeous weather, and historical charm.

Cuba’s 5,746-kilometer coastline is marked by 200 sheltered bays, more than 4,000 keys and islets, and 588 kilometers of beach. Most shores are covered with mangroves and cut by rivers, creeks, marshes, and lagoons. Parts of the coast are rocky and steep. Both the Atlantic and Caribbean sides of the island are sheltered by coral reefs, one of which is part of the world’s second-largest reef originating in South America.

Cuba is a place where you can clamber over the ruins of French coffee plantations. Tour Spanish colonial cities dating back to the 16th century. Luxuriate in European-style spas. Swing to Afro-Cuban and Latin rhythms. Hike through spectacular mountains and forests. Dive on one of the world’s great reefs. And fish where Hemingway fished.

This is authentic Caribbean.

CULTURE & HERITAGE

Centuries of blending different nations, customs, and traditions have created a unique tapestry of Cuban lifestyles and culture. For example, unique Spanish-American architecture from the 16th through 19th centuries remains an indelible — and educational — sign of our cultural foundation. Two of Cuba’s ancient cities (Havana and Trinidad) have been declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.

VISITOR HOTSPOTS

Havana, the exotic capital of Cuba and the largest city in the Caribbean is a must-see for any visitor. For centuries, the city has served as the gateway to the Gulf of Mexico, in fact its first building, which overlooks the entrance to a protected bay, dates back to 1519. Today, Havana is noted for its fascinating history, nightlife, and architecture.

The rest of the Western Region outside of Havana holds many treasures including Varadero Beach — some call it the world’s greatest beach. It has long been the pride of Cuba and a magnet for the rich and famous. On the Caribbean side lies Cayo Largo del Sur, an idyllic little key with sugar-white beaches and unparalleled dive sites. On the south side of the region sits the Great Natural Park of Montemar located in the Ciénaga de Zapata Reserve of the Biosphere. It is particularly popular with those keen on eco-tourism, and for adventure travelers, there are many opportunities for thrills including open sea diving or speleo-diving in sunken caves.

Highlights in the Central Region are Cienfuegos, one of Cuba’s most beautiful cities. The province of Villa Clara is known for its history, culture, beautiful beaches, and its production of sugar, coffee, and tobacco. Trinidad has preserved its old palaces and colonial architecture and is blessed with magnificent Caribbean beaches.

Holguin is a gem of the Eastern Region with stunning mountains, pristine tropical forests, and irresistible beaches, lagoons, and bays. Round out a visit to the east with a visit to Cuba’s second largest city, Santiago, combined with an exploration of the forests and mountains of Baracoa.
